REACT UK  - Training for the Future

Men and women of REACT UK train in radio communications, basic life support, event support skills in units all around the United Kingdom.  New members, who have no previous experience, are offered a foundation course followed by comprehensive training in their chosen specialisation, leading to progressive series of nationally recognised qualifications.

The Rewards

As training progresses, step by step, REACT UK members are encouraged by a growing sense of achievement, together with the unique blend of comradeship and social involvement which membership offers them.  Each member can progress as far as he or she wishes and in time may become an instructor, thus ensuring our skills are passed on to the next generation of 'reacters'.

Members of REACT UK together provide a trained body of men and women ready to help in time of national and local emergency.  Local authorities and emergency services are involving REACT UK units in their operational response plans.

The aims and activities of REACT UK of serving the community have met with the widespread support.

How do I join REACT UK?

There are 3 main options available to individuals

A The 'Active' list contains the majority of members in the REACT UK.  You should be physically fit and aged between 18 and 55 on entry and willing to attend your unit for training and other activities regularly.  You can serve on list 'A' until you are 65 but there are then opportunities to transfer to list 'B' or 'C'.

List A members are required to wear REACT UK uniform when on duty and are encouraged to wear it whenever they are representing REACT UK on public service duties.

B The 'Back-up' list.  If you are aged 65 or under, have practical expertise you could pass on to a younger generation, then the 'back-up' list may be for you.  We need instructors, particularly those with skills which will benefit both our members and the communities which we serve.  You will be expected to attend your unit regularly on training evenings.  You can serve up to 70 with exemptions.

List B members are required to wear REACT UK uniform when on duty or representing REACT UK on public service duties.

C The 'Supporters' list. If you feel unable to give the REACT UK the level of commitment required for the lists 'A' or 'B', but nevertheless support our aims and wish to be involved with the organisation you can join the 'Supporters' list.  There are no age limits and you will play your part by attending social functions.  Occasionally you may be asked to assist the Head of Unit in organising fund raising events and generally raising the profile of the REACT UK in your locality.

Supporters are not expected to wear uniform and are not subject to age limits.

Other memberships include 'Corporate' list for those organisations who wish to support the aims and objectives of REACT UK.

List A & B members must be able to work as part of a close-knit integrated team, yet also be able to work independently and show initiative. They must be level headed, calm and clear thinking in a highly stressed situation and be able to work closely with police officers, emergency services, and the general public in a position of trust and responsibility.

We encourage participation in routine unit operations but you don't need to attend every function.

The benefit of regular participation is that we all become accustomed to working with each other and proficient in operating our equipment.

Our membership application process is relatively straightforward. You will be asked to fill out an application form detailing your contact information, any radio communication training/capabilities you may have, and whether you have other skills which could be beneficial to the team.

Membership subscription falls due on the 1st of April annually and is currently £24 per year. Dependant upon when you join throughout the year the membership fee will be on a sliding scale as seen in the table below.
